The Federal Government tabled Bill C-45 on June 12, 2003. Bill C-45 passed third reading on October 27, 2003, and is awaiting Royal Assent to become law; it will amend the Criminal Code to modernize the law with respect to the criminal liability of corporations as well as the sentencing of corporations.

The government has developed a plain language guide to help individuals understand the complex and specific language employed in the Criminal Code, which eventually may include provisions of Bill C-45. The guide outlines how the law applies in the most common situations, and is intended to assist the reader in understanding how the government's proposed legislation may affect them-or the corporation they work for.
