*First Aider means an employee who holds a valid First Aid Workplace Certificate indicating the person has received a minimum training level of 10 compulsory modules and any 2 of 5 elective modules of the Workplace Standard First Aid Course and a minimum of 16 hours of classroom and practical training. Approved training may be provided by St-John Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross or other appproved organizations.

Note 1. Hight Hazard Work means work carried on at a place of employment specified below or, if no place of employment is specified, the work described below, constitutes high hazard work:

  • working at project site or mine;
     
  • working underground, in confined spaces or in isolated areas where emergency medical help is not in close proximity to the work area;
     
  • working on electrical transmission, generation or distribution systems;
     
  • working at foundries or machine shops;
     
  • working at gas, oil or chemical processing plants, steel or other base metal processing plants;
     
  • working at woodland operations, sawmills or lumber processing plants;
     
  • working at brewery or beverage processing plants, meat packing or processing plants;
     
  • working with explosives or heavy equipment.

Pocket First Aid Kits must be carried by all mine forepersons employed underground, all forepersons engaged in logging operations and all supervisors of workers where the nature of the work or the location of the workplace make it reasonable to be so equipped. A Pocket First Aid Kit must contain:

  • 1-15ml container of sterile eyewash
     
  • 1-1oz. bottle Dettol, Merthiolate or other approved antiseptic
     
  • 2 amonia ampoules
     
  • 1-1oz tube approved burn ointment
     
  • 1 optic loop or camel's hair brush
     
  • 1-2 inch x 2 yard roller bandage
     
  • 1-2 inch compressed bandage
     
  • 2-2 inch x 2 inch sterile gauze pads
     
  • 12 adhesive dressings
     
  • 1 roll 1/2 inch x 1 yard adhesive plaster
     
  • 6 safety pins
     
  • 1 metal or plastic box container
